Hi I'm Brittonie

I'm a working artist and teacher with a visual arts background in photography and sculpture. I really enjoyed physics in high school- my fav. parts were learning circuity, soldering and making remote control solar powered cars in class. It was really fun!

I specialise in analogue (chemical based) photography with an interest in early photography- 19th century processes. I'll tell you all about this a little bit more in future meetings.

I'm a terrible speller and my grammar isn't always very good- So don't judge me if you see some mistakes now and then.

Some stuff about me and the STEAM Residency:

STEAM Education is an approach to learning that uses Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics as access points for guiding student inquiry, dialogue, and critical thinking.

This arts residency is for me to work with you all exploring STEAM during meetups and your teacher will do some science practicals with you at other times which will be directly connected to the creative stuff we work on.

We're going to start by having each of you create your own research blog which will be linked to this as a general host blog. Research is pretty important for starting any project science, art or both. Here we get to keep a record of things we've learned, found interesting, made, documentation, links any anything else we might find important.  We'll refer back to it when we start making our final project.

We're going to work on a project with the theme of Environment- thinking about our relationship to it and how we connect the things you've been learning and will learn this year in your classes to the project.

I'd really like your first blog entry to include:

  • 3 things you've learned in school this year that you really found interesting or exciting and it doesn't have to be Science or Art but it would be great to know anything in the sciences and arts or designs that you are interested in from learning about Atoms to creating the perfect TicTok (i'll be honest - You might teach me more about the latter- i'm not that cool)
  • What parts of the project interested you to sign up for it?
  • I'd like you to make some Mind Maps (i've linked this for a reference in case you haven't made one before) I'll post my own to this in the following post.
  • thinking about the Theme of Environment and your connection and relationship to it, draw up or write out a mind map.
  • I'd like you to do one about Edinburgh or Scotland as well.
